Gin Basil Smash - Gin Fig Smash Recipe

Some time ago we rented a beautiful finca with friends in Banyalbufar, in the middle of the Tramuntana mountains. Here we have created the Gin Fig Smash. A small fig tree grew directly out of an old stone wall in front of the finca. It was early in the year and the tree had no fruit yet, but the leaves had an incredible aroma of their own.

Jörg Meyer's Gin Basil Smash is a well-known cocktail and we were wondering if it would be possible to substitute fig leaves for the basil. Perfect timing means that something fits exactly at a specific point in time. The moment was after lunch on the sunny terrace of our finca, where
we chatted with our friends from Son Vives. Lorenc brought the shaker and a handful of fig leaves. With lemon juice, agave syrup and gin he mixed us the first pie smash - we were thrilled.

Here is the recipe for 4 people:

  • 5 large fig leaves (for the basil smash: just use a handful of basil leaves instead of the fig leaves)
  • 2 lemons
  • 3 THE Agavensirup
  • 20 cl Gin Eva Green Spice
  • a large mason jar with a lid

Crush the fig leaves with a wooden spoon in the jar. Then put enough ice cubes in the glass until it is half full. Cut the lemons in half and use your hands to squeeze the juice directly into the shaker glass. Add 3 tablespoons of agave syrup and 20 cl of Eva Green Spice gin. Close the jar and shake gently so the ice cubes stay whole for a minute. Use the mason jar lid as a strainer to serve the cocktail in glasses.
